Steve + Chai – Cebu City E-Session (1st Day)

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

Lakshmi Photography’s first venture in Cebu City! We’d like to start by thanking our lovely couple Steve and Chai for the opportunity and for choosing us amongst the pool of photographers they’ve searched nationwide. It’s a great honor to be chosen by you :) We’d also like to thank my tito, Mr. Rene Araneta for accommodating us for the 3 days that we’ve been in Cebu. It’s always a delight to stay at my tito’s house for they not only serve sumptuous, mouth watering food but I also love the company and wisdom he always shares that inspires me to do better in the field of photography.

Our first day was all about fun. The team went to see Legend of the Guardians in 3D at IMAX. We were able to relax and on our second day in Cebu was our first day of shoot. It was our first time to meet Steve and Chai. There were some odd moments at first but later on we were laughing and enjoying the day.  Half day actually since we were only able to shoot in the morning till noon. After lunch, when we were on our way to our next location, it rained that we decided to skip it and head our way to the third location at Mantayupan Falls in Barili. Rain stopped, we thought we could have good shots with the magnificent falls but we were all dismayed to see  how angry the flow of the water was and at how brown its color was. On our way back, we just chose random spots to have a few shots. We were supposed to go to Mountain View to catch some night lights but the couple were already exhausted from the trip so we decided to just feed our grambling tummies and call it a  night.

More pictures of our second day will be posted soon. Were we able to shoot or did the rain prevent us from having good pictures? Find out soon! “_)

Tagum City, Davao del Norte: Photography Workshop

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

September 18-19, 2010.. We were happy to leave Tagum City knowing that our participants for the workshop were “satisfied.” A couple of  participants were given the chance to tell us their thoughts and of the experience they’ve had during the 2-day Photography Workshop. All the feedback we heard were all positive, except for one. Dr. Manuel Tesoro, one of the participants, had a very interesting point. He first said that his expectations were met and that he thought we were underpaid with all the things he learned from us about photography. His first photography workshop, he said, he didn’t learn that much. Then this time, he was only dismayed for the organizers said that we would have “hands-on” photoshoot and yet, he didn’t have the chance to even touch the model’s fingernails :) I was relieved upon hearing this because for the 2 to 3-minute talk that he had, I was holding my breath!

Thank you so much to the organizers for giving me the chance to share my knowledge and for trusting a Cagay-anon (Not really from Cagayan de Oro but my heart is now in the City of Golden Friendship) to handle their first venture in workshops at Tagum City. To the participants, I can’t thank you enough for also sharing your passion in photography. Just keep on shooting and explore more. To my wife Julie, for always supporting me in my adventures. To my assistants/lights men, Dodong and Rondel, till the next escapade! To my family and to my Baby Lakshmi, next time when you’re old enough to hold a reflector, promise, you’ll be tagging along in all our undertakings :) To God, for always blessing us, thank you Lord! “_)

Ceniza + Tamayo – Surigao Wedding Photographer

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Surigao is a long way from Cagayan de Oro but road trips are our favorite. Kim and Vanessa’s wedding was not the usual wedding for they had a lot of fun and surprises in store for their guests. Guests were overflowing from different parts of the Philippines and the world. Some of their relatives even came as far as Germany, Dubai and USA just to witness their union. Vanessa was a beautiful bride that day. Her simplicity combined with her beauty made her standout while Kim on the other hand was the dashing groom who is in comparison to his lovely bride.

All their hard work paid off. They told us they would only have a simple wedding but theirs was grand! They transformed Surigao’s Convention Center into a spectacular and awesome reception. At the entrance was a  beautiful landscape with a flowing fountain that’s soothing to hear and look at and when you go inside the Convention Center, you’ll see different kinds of flowers and draperies that add beauty to the whole place. The stage was also decorated in a simple yet elegant setup that suited the bride and groom’s personalities. Both Kim and Vanessa were hands-on with the preparations. They wanted to make sure that everything’s perfect for their special day. Again, all their hard work really paid off.

I now share to you their wedding album. The resort they chose was breathtaking. I had a very hard time choosing which pictures to include because I wanted to include almost all of the images but I had to choose a few and it was a very, very hard task. Enjoy! “_)

Aris + Gen – Siargao & Surigao Engagement Session

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Since time immemorial, I have always hated Physics. Well, too harsh, let me rephrase that: Physics has and will always be my least favorite subject. Better? Hehehe… I guess I’m no wizard or sorcerer because I can’t seem to connect with the subject. But for Aris and Gen, they eat, breathe, live and love Physics! Both are even PhD students in Pittsburgh, USA.

Aris is from Carnegie-Mellon doing research in High Energy Physics at Fermilab while Gen is from the University of Pittsburgh doing research on Damped Lymann-Alpha Systems, analyzing tens of thousands (!) of quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). She aims to be an astronomer in the near future. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day a star or a constellation will be named after her :)

Wonder how they met? Let me quote Gen’s story:

“We met in UP Diliman- at the National Institute of Physics as Physics undergraduates.. but the Lord has put things beautifully into place a little over three years ago… at the same time I was to leave the country for grad school … in other words, two years was essentially long distance.. (but even distance did not prevent us from watching a movie or an episode of a tv series simultaneously over skype!)” Gen is from Iligan City while Aris is from the beautiful island of Bohol.

Aside from loving Physics, both also love to watch tv series online through www.hulu.com. How I wish hulu permits ip addresses from the Philippines too! Not only that, Gen also loves to watch tv shows from the Philippines and she watches it online as well. Aris installed a virtual machine on her PC so she can watch at her heart’s content without worrying about any lurking virus. Anything about computers both hardware and software also tickles Aris’ fancy. He even has this website where he uploads all his work may it be about his computations or pictures of him and Gen.

Even if their world mostly revolves around their beloved Physics, both are fun and so pleasant to be with. Both have a kind heart who has their feet on the ground. Gen’s sweet and adorable while Aris is responsible and kind. Always making sure that everything is in place. Our trip to Surigao and Siargao was long and tiring but because of their company (with Gen’s parents too), it wasn’t as tiresome as it should be. When it was time for the photoshoot, they did their best to pose and follow each of our instructions. It wasn’t hard for us to capture their moments because both are just natural models! The emotions they showed were so real that even their directed poses seemed like candid shots.

To Aris and Gen, thank you so much for the wonderful trip. Gen thank you so much for the information you provided for our introduction. I think this is the longest by far! Hahaha.. To the couple’s friends and family, here are the pictures you’ve all been waiting for.. Enjoy!
