Iligan 2011: Diyandi Festival Photo Contest

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

I fervently prayed to God to guide and bless me those days while I was in Iligan City for the Diyandi Festival. I am such a beloved child for He never fails to shower me with His love. Out of the 15 pictures that I submitted (5 entries for each category), 6 went in and bagged 1st, 2nd and 4 honorable mentions (consolation prizes).  I and God had this understanding and I will keep my promise to Him “_) Thank you Lord!

People have one way or another played key roles in this wonderful experience: Al Fritz Ermac (who also won 1st place out of 3 categories and some pictures of him were also given prizes)  for adopting me for several days, Engr. and Mrs. Maloy Ardieta for adopting me on the 1st day of the festival especially for the sumptuous dinner served by Dr. Jo Ann, your hospitality, kindness and friendship I will always treasure, Atty. Zed Ditucalan for giving me such a beautiful advance Christmas gift “_), and to the Judges: Bobby Timonera, Icon Chua, and Pat Noel, the President of the Iligan Bloggers Society, thank you all so much for the inspiration. And of course, to all my friends/photographers in Iligan City, thank you all so much for the well wishes and support. To God be the glory! “_)

This is an absolutely No-Photoshop contest, not even cropping. Printed as they are, uploaded here with borders and watermark added and resized for comfortable online viewing.

Carlos + Cherry Nasaire’s Underwater Trash-The-Dress

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

This was Lakshmi team’s very first venture into the wonderful world of Underwater Photography. At the moment the deal was sealed, our hearts started pumping like crazy. What to do? Will the gears be safe? How will we take the shots? How will they be able to hold their breath? Cherry doesn’t know how to swim, how will they hack it? Questions! Fears! No doubt we had it all. But because of our brave couple we were able to have a very successful underwater trash-the-dress! Kudos to Carlos and Cherry for a job well done! Special thanks to Alex Obregoso for lending us his Dicapac and for giving us helpful tips. To Jelo Pacana and Nel Ruelo for helping me stay underwater, Jay Angela Omana for the hair and makeup and Benjie S. Manuel for the gown. Will Julie and I still do this again????? Hell yeah!!! An awesome experience worth doing again, again, again, and again! “_) This will be offered to all future clients who are brave enough to swim in the open sea or at a 16-ft swimming pool… “_)

Calamba + Sardane – Iligan City Wedding

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

It was all so surreal. It was as if I was taking images of a romantic movie. Aris and Gen’s wedding was overflowing with love. It was the first time that I felt something so true and spontaneous. Everybody was in tears. Both of their parents were touched of Aris and Gen’s revelations, including the Bestman’s too! When Aris spoke it was as if I was also feeling his love and it captured everyone’s attention. When the Pastor announced that Aris can kiss the bride, it was as if he won a multi-million dollar pot money! To Aris and Gen, may you continue to inspire everyone of the love you both share. Best wishes, good luck and God bless! “_)

Tagum City, Davao del Norte: Photography Workshop

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

September 18-19, 2010.. We were happy to leave Tagum City knowing that our participants for the workshop were “satisfied.” A couple of  participants were given the chance to tell us their thoughts and of the experience they’ve had during the 2-day Photography Workshop. All the feedback we heard were all positive, except for one. Dr. Manuel Tesoro, one of the participants, had a very interesting point. He first said that his expectations were met and that he thought we were underpaid with all the things he learned from us about photography. His first photography workshop, he said, he didn’t learn that much. Then this time, he was only dismayed for the organizers said that we would have “hands-on” photoshoot and yet, he didn’t have the chance to even touch the model’s fingernails :) I was relieved upon hearing this because for the 2 to 3-minute talk that he had, I was holding my breath!

Thank you so much to the organizers for giving me the chance to share my knowledge and for trusting a Cagay-anon (Not really from Cagayan de Oro but my heart is now in the City of Golden Friendship) to handle their first venture in workshops at Tagum City. To the participants, I can’t thank you enough for also sharing your passion in photography. Just keep on shooting and explore more. To my wife Julie, for always supporting me in my adventures. To my assistants/lights men, Dodong and Rondel, till the next escapade! To my family and to my Baby Lakshmi, next time when you’re old enough to hold a reflector, promise, you’ll be tagging along in all our undertakings :) To God, for always blessing us, thank you Lord! “_)

Aris + Gen – Siargao & Surigao Engagement Session

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

Since time immemorial, I have always hated Physics. Well, too harsh, let me rephrase that: Physics has and will always be my least favorite subject. Better? Hehehe… I guess I’m no wizard or sorcerer because I can’t seem to connect with the subject. But for Aris and Gen, they eat, breathe, live and love Physics! Both are even PhD students in Pittsburgh, USA.

Aris is from Carnegie-Mellon doing research in High Energy Physics at Fermilab while Gen is from the University of Pittsburgh doing research on Damped Lymann-Alpha Systems, analyzing tens of thousands (!) of quasar spectra from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). She aims to be an astronomer in the near future. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day a star or a constellation will be named after her :)

Wonder how they met? Let me quote Gen’s story:

“We met in UP Diliman- at the National Institute of Physics as Physics undergraduates.. but the Lord has put things beautifully into place a little over three years ago… at the same time I was to leave the country for grad school … in other words, two years was essentially long distance.. (but even distance did not prevent us from watching a movie or an episode of a tv series simultaneously over skype!)” Gen is from Iligan City while Aris is from the beautiful island of Bohol.

Aside from loving Physics, both also love to watch tv series online through www.hulu.com. How I wish hulu permits ip addresses from the Philippines too! Not only that, Gen also loves to watch tv shows from the Philippines and she watches it online as well. Aris installed a virtual machine on her PC so she can watch at her heart’s content without worrying about any lurking virus. Anything about computers both hardware and software also tickles Aris’ fancy. He even has this website where he uploads all his work may it be about his computations or pictures of him and Gen.

Even if their world mostly revolves around their beloved Physics, both are fun and so pleasant to be with. Both have a kind heart who has their feet on the ground. Gen’s sweet and adorable while Aris is responsible and kind. Always making sure that everything is in place. Our trip to Surigao and Siargao was long and tiring but because of their company (with Gen’s parents too), it wasn’t as tiresome as it should be. When it was time for the photoshoot, they did their best to pose and follow each of our instructions. It wasn’t hard for us to capture their moments because both are just natural models! The emotions they showed were so real that even their directed poses seemed like candid shots.

To Aris and Gen, thank you so much for the wonderful trip. Gen thank you so much for the information you provided for our introduction. I think this is the longest by far! Hahaha.. To the couple’s friends and family, here are the pictures you’ve all been waiting for.. Enjoy!
